Moving has been referred to as one of the most stressful moments in a person’s life. Having to stuff things away in boxes, haul it to a new location, to then unload all of those things somewhere new can be exhausting.

Few people love the specifics of moving, but there are ways for you to make moving far less stressful. If you find yourself moving this fall, here are some tips to help you get through it all with a smile on your face.

The best ways not to break things

Whenever you move from one location to another, you might accept that something will break along the way. A glass, a dish, or even a picture frame – these are all susceptible to breaks.

But here are a few hacks that could reduce that likelihood:

Rather than wrap plates in newspapers, place disposable foam plates between each one, then pack the plates vertically (like vinyl records) into your box.

Place drinking glasses inside clean socks for extra padding.

Use your existing towels as cushions for fragile items.

The best way to keep things organized

Many folks pack away their clothes into boxes or containers when they move. However, if possible, leave your clothes on hangers, and place several hangers in a large garbage bag. This will protect your clothes, keep them in good condition, and makes it easy for you to simply hang your clothes when you get to your new place.

It’s also a good idea to pack essential items inside clear plastic bins. That way it’s easy for you to find these items among the throngs of boxes. Some items that you might consider “essential” include paper towels, trash bags, utensils, phone chargers, and toilet paper.

It’s also a very good idea to pack your toolbox last. That way it’s easily accessible when you need to put together and assemble everything you had to take apart.

Best way to settle into your new home

Part of the stress of moving is making your new house feel like a home. Here are two hacks to help you settle in a little quicker:

If the carpet in your new home has dents left by furniture, place ice cubes on the divots, let the ice melt, then use a coin or spoon to fluff up the fibers.

If you have to drill holes into your wall, you can avoid drill dust from falling onto the floor with a sticky note (Post-it note). Place the note under the area you plan to drill, and fold the bottom half up to form a V to catch the dust.

Minimize your stress level by renting a residential dumpster to get rid of junk

One of the best ways to make moving less stressful is minimize the amount of stuff you have to move. Moving is the perfect time for you to take stock of all of your possessions, and whittle away the stuff you no longer need.

Renting a residential-friendly dumpster from Bin There Dump That of Greater New Orleans makes it easy for you to get rid of your junk without slowing down your moving process.

Simply call our team, and talk to a representative who’ll help you choose the right bin size for your needs. We’ll then drop off the bin when and where you want and pick it up when you’re done.

It’s as simple as that. You’ll never have to worry about your unwanted stuff again. While you pack up your moving truck, merely walk your items to the bin – delivered right to your property – toss your items in the dumpster and we’ll take care of the rest.

If you live in the Greater New Orleans area (including Baton Rouge, Mandeville and Slidell) and are moving this fall (or anytime of the year) contact Bin There Dump That today to learn more about how we can help make moving a breeze.

The spring is notorious for being the season where everyone down here in Greater New Orleans, Slidell, Covington, and Mandeville shakes off those winter blues, opens up the windows and embarks on a massive cleaning exodus.

Spring cleaning is nearly a rite of passage down here in Louisiana; however, it’s not the only season where homeowners take on massive-sized projects.

In the fall, many homeowners decide to tackle big home improvement projects they’ve been eyeing for some time, so that these projects can be completed before the winter comes.

Here in Greater New Orleans, Slidell, Covington, and Mandeville, some of the most popular projects include kitchens, bathrooms, great rooms and outdoor living spaces.

Each of these projects are extremely large in scope. Remodeling a kitchen or bathroom, for example, involves ripping up tile, tearing down cabinets, removing major appliances and so much more.

In fact, many folks shy away from their home improvement projects because of the mess and work involved. But there is a way to minimize the amount of mess, work, and pileups that usually go hand-in-hand with your fall projects:

Renting a residential-friendly dumpster bin.

How a New Orleans residential-friendly dumpster bin can improve your fall home improvement projects

During the spring, you’ll find many subcontractors getting back to work building new homes during the spring rush. These subcontractors usually come to an empty lot or property with massively sized, commercial-grade dumpster bins.

These bins are ideal for the subcontractor, but more times than not they’re not ideal for your fall home improvement projects, because:

They’re usually bigger than what you need

They’re usually more expensive

Their size makes them a challenge to place on your property

These types of bins need to be delivered by an enormous truck that isn’t so residential/neighborhood friendly

Most of these commercial bins are extremely unsightly

But using a dumpster bin is, without question, one of the most effective ways to reduce stress, waste, and anxiety during your projects.

That’s why so many folks throughout New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and Slidell are seeking creative alternatives to these commercial bins, in the form of a residential-friendly dumpster bin.

Residential dumpster bins differ from the bins you typically see behind retail stores, because:

They come in 5 unique sizes, all of which are better suited for your property

They’re delivered by smaller trucks designed to not only handle narrow residential streets, but will cause less noise and disturbance in your neighborhood

They’re less expensive than their commercial counterparts

These bins can be delivered and picked up based on your schedule, so that you never have to feel rushed during your project

The Bin There Dump That team also takes the extra step of placing your bins on wooden planks, ensuring that your property will never be damaged during drop-off or pickup.

How can you decide which dumpster bin to choose for your fall home improvement project?

Bin There Dump That offers five sizes for homeowners in Greater New Orleans, Slidell, Covington, and Mandeville to choose from:

4-yard dumpster

6-yard dumpster

10-yard dumpster

14-yard dumpster

20-yard dumpster

Each of these sizes accommodate different projects and properties. To make things easier for our clients, our team can help you choose the right bin for your needs. Simply call our offices today, and we’ll get started on finding you the right dumpster bin to help you tackle that fall home improvement project.

No two home projects are the same. The type of dumpster bin you need to handle your spring cleaning project is likely not the same bin you’d need if you were renovating a home or undergoing a massive landscaping project.

There once was a time when homeowners throughout the Greater New Orleans area had just two options for disposing of their unwanted items or debris:

Rent an oversized commercial dumpster, which would be delivered by an oversized truck and very likely could damage their property, or

Taxi their disposed items from their home to a dumping site by using their own personal car, or by having to rent a vehicle.

Neither of these options are ideal; however, these days, folks throughout Southeastern Louisiana can turn to Bin There Dump That, and our residential-friendly dumpsters.

5 dumpster bin sizes to help you with residential projects

Homeowners throughout New Orleans, Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell take on a number of residential projects throughout the year. Fortunately, Bin There Dump That has five unique bin sizes, each of which are ideal to handle any type of home-based project.

Our 4-yard dumpster model stands less than waist high. This bin is effective for small driveways and is well suited for average clean-out jobs. Even with its small size, the 4-yarder can house pretty hefty debris, including bricks, concrete, topsoil and gravel.

Specs: 9′ long, 6′ wide, 2′ high.

Our 6-yard dumpster is still effective for homes that have small driveways. These dumpsters are delivered in smaller sized trucks, which can easily navigate through narrow streets.

We often find that homeowners renovating their roofs love the 6-yarder, but it can also handle a host of construction/landscaping jobs.

Specs: 10′ long, 6′ wide, 3′ high.

Our 10-yard dumpster usually suffices for homeowners who want to clean out their homes, or perform a comprehensive construction job, without worrying about junk piling up.

The one thing we’d caution is you’ll want to make sure your driveway can handle this larger sized bin (our customer support team can help you make that determination).

Specs: 10′ long, 7′ wide, 4′ high.

Our 14-yard residential dumpster bin is great if you have a medium-to-large sized home. These bins are also ideal for flood or fire restoration jobs, as well as if and when you need to dispose of furniture.

Specs: 11′ long, 8′ wide, 4.5′ high.

Our 20-yard residential dumpster is the big guy in our Bin There Dump That fleet. Because of its size, we work hard to make sure that customers who request this bin can actually house it on their property.

The 20-yarder is a wonderful bin for projects including:

Putting on an addition to your home

Taking on a massive remodeling job

Cleaning up after a flood or fire

A large landscaping project

The benefit of our 20-yard dumpster bins is that you can rest assured that you can get the project done without your bin filling up fast.

Specs: 11′ long, 8′ wide, 6′ high.

Not sure which bin is right for you? Our team can help!

Most homeowners aren’t sure what size bin they need for their projects. In fact, most folks throughout New Orleans are surprised they even have an option when it comes to renting a dumpster.

Our goal is to make sure our clients rent a bin that fits their needs, budget, and space constraints. That’s why we train our customer support team to help match you with the right size bin for your needs.

Once we determine the right size, you’ll simple schedule a drop-off and pickup time, and we’ll take care of the rest.

It really is as simple as that. We want to make it easy for you to take care of your home-based projects, without having to worry about what you’ll do with all that debris and unwanted items. Give us a call today to learn more about how we can help you tackle any of your home projects this year.

You might think that as a business, Bin There Dump That of Southeast Louisiana would prefer its customers not to share their residential-friendly dumpsters with their neighbors. That’s because when you share your dumpster, that’s one less customer that Bin There Dump That gets.

But not only do we allow you to share your dumpster with your neighbors; we actually encourage it.

By sharing your dumpster with folks in your neighborhood, you and your neighbors can save money as well as conserve resources.

That’s the type of win-win situation that we love to support!

Why you might want to share your residential dumpster with your neighbors

Save some money!

At Bin There Dump That, we offer five residential-friendly dumpster sizes for our customers to choose from, each with their own individual cost to rent.

If, for example, you rent our 14-yard dumpster, you’ll pay the same cost regardless of whether you alone use the dumpster, of if you choose to share the bin with your neighbors and split the cost.

Let’s say that you and your neighbors agree to rent our largest bin – the 20-yarder – for a weekend neighborhood cleanup party. We recommend you designate one person as the rental operator. He or she will be the one who contacts us, and pays the rental fee. Each participating neighbor will pitch in with their portion of the rental.

Get to know your neighbors!

Nearly 50% of Americans don’t even know their neighbors (according to research conducted by Trulia). While folks here in Southeastern Louisiana are pretty neighborly, we all could use an excuse to get to know the folks in our community a little better.

“Dumpster Days” are a great way to introduce yourself and have a little fun while you’re at it.

If someone new moves into the neighborhood, you might take this opportunity to coordinate a dumpster day party to welcome the newcomers and help them sort through their boxes.

Dumpsters are also perfect to rent following a block sale or even as an added feature for your annual block party (folks can throw out old items while enjoying food, drinks, and games).

Great opportunities for renting a residential dumpster for your neighborhood

When might be a good time to rent a residential-friendly dumpster for you and your neighbors?

Spring cleaning days are always a good time. Humans instinctively want to shed some weight following the winter. Why not celebrate this annual tradition with a residential dumpster?

We’ve also seen many folks in our communities rent our residential dumpsters following a storm. Not only do our bins make it possible for you to clear away tree limbs and other debris, but by sharing your bin with your neighbors you can help one another during what’s usually a stressful and tumultuous time.

Tips for your neighborhood residential dumpster

One of the issues you’ll face when renting a residential-friendly dumpster for your neighborhood is determining where you should place your bin.

There’ll likely be no central location, so we recommend you place your bin in one neighbor’s driveway or yard, so long as that neighbor’s property is easily accessible.

Then, neighbors can use their trucks and cars to carry heavier items to the dumpster.

Want to learn more about renting a residential-friendly dumpster in Greater New Orleans? Contact Bin There Dump That today to find out how our bins can help you and your neighbors, while saving you money.

Dumpster bags are a fairly popular way for homeowners throughout the Greater New Orleans area to get rid of the unwanted items they toss out during a renovation project or spring cleanup.

We can see why, too. These dumpster bags are affordable, ideal for small projects and lightly weighted debris, and can be found at virtually any local or major hardware store.

It takes all of a moment to set these bags up on your property and get to work filling them up to be hauled away. It seems perfect, except, more and more homeowners from Mandeville to Slidell and beyond realize that these small dumpster bags can’t really handle the types of jobs New Orleans, Covington, Mandeville, or Slidell homeowners demand.

Bin field calls almost daily from homeowners who started their home project with a handful of bags, and now turn to us for help. That’s because dumpster bags:

Can only handle small projects; often times even a spring cleanup is too much

The convenience in their size is, all too often, an inconvenience. For example, a dumpster bag is nearly 20% smaller than our 14-yard residential friendly dumpster

While the bags are easy to purchase and setup, this ease comes at a price – lack of sturdiness

To ensure proper pickup, you have to set up the bags near a street or in a wide area

The companies hired to pick up these bags aren’t always reliable or on time

There are several restrictions on what types of materials can be disposed of

Most projects throughout Southeastern Louisiana require more than just what one bag can handle. What ends up happening is homeowners have to spend more money on several bags, which, might we add, becomes a horrific eyesore, not to mention many companies charge extra for these multiple pickup.

Fed up with all of this, our neighbors throughout the Greater New Orleans region have turned to our residential friendly dumpsters for respite. Here’s why:

The benefits of renting a New Orleans residential-friendly dumpster vs dumpster bags

So why is it that more and more of our neighbors are turning to our residential dumpsters?

Oh the many sizes!

Our customers can choose from any of our 5 different dumpster sizes, including 4 yard, 6 yard, 10 yard, 14 yard, and 20 yard.

Not only does this mean avoiding the cost and inconvenience of purchasing several dumpster bags, but it also means never having to pay more than you need (which is often the case with commercial dumpsters).

If you anticipate a really small job, you might consider a 4-yard dumpster. If you’re completely renovating a room in your house, you’d likely go with a 20-yard dumpster.

If you’re not sure, then our customer service team can offer suggestions following a conversation with you.

Friendly for homes, but built for the biggest projects on the planet

Our residential-friendly dumpsters and trucks are designed to navigate through the unique confines of neighborhood streets and homes. But the bins themselves are as sturdy as any dumpster you’d find on a commercial lot (only our bins are far more attractive, we have to admit).

This sturdiness means that our bins can handle nearly every item you throw their way, from furniture to roof shingles, gravel, topsoil and more.

We’ve built our business on reliable drop-off and pickup

Many of our residential clients use our bins as part of a formal renovation job. This means that they can’t afford to have any delays in their bin delivery and pickup.

We bring that same sense of organization and urgency to all New Orleans homeowners who rely on us to help them get the job done. You’ll know exactly when your bin will be delivered, and we’ll work with you to schedule a pickup time around your needs and convenience, not ours.

That’s the Bin There Dump That difference – we put our clients’ needs before us. Whether it’s placing planks beneath our dumpsters to protect your property from damage, or adapting our pickup schedule because of unforeseen circumstances on your end, we go above and beyond the call of duty to make your home renovation or cleanup project go smoothly.

When’s the last time a dumpster bag did that for you?

Looking to sell your home in the Greater New Orleans area?

Many homeowners and realtors pay a pretty penny to hire a staging expert to help make their home more attractive to prospective buyers. But by following a few easy steps, you can make your home the most desirable property on the market without having to spend thousands of dollars on an expert.

Take small steps to declutter

The New Orleans housing market can be a very competitive space. You have to do something special in order to make your property stand out.

Most studies show that prospective homebuyers prefer to visit a house that looks lived in, but they shy away from buying a home that feels cluttered.

So how can you manage this balancing act? Chances are your home has more stuff in it then you really need. As you’re getting set to move, decluttering a bit won’t just make your home more attractive to sell, but it’ll make your move far less stressful.

We recommend that you take small steps as you declutter your home, to avoid getting overwhelmed. For example, choose one closet to focus on first. How can you make that closet more attractive? What items in that closet do you not really need?

You can probably donate a good amount of unwanted items from your closets and drawers; however, you’ll want to rent a residential-friendly dumpster for those items you feel ready to toss out completely.

Attack those usual clutter suspects

Basements. Garages. Backyard sheds. These spaces in your home are famous for housing piles and piles of unused and unwanted items.

It’d be a shame to lose out on a sale because your prospective buyer was turned off by the clutter in your garage, right?

If you have a ton of unused items in any of these usual suspects, we’d recommend you rent one of our larger residential-friendly dumpsters, and then spend the day clearing out these areas so that folks interested in your home get to see the beauty of these spaces, without the distraction of all that stuff.

Tackle your yard – it’s finally time!

If you’re like most of our fellow Greater New Orleans or Mandeville homeowners, then you probably have a laundry list of things you want to do with your yard.

Now that you’re selling your home, you probably consider that list irrelevant.

Think again.

Prepping your yard for a sale could dramatically increase the value of your home while also making it really attractive to buyers. Whether it’s fixing up rundown fences or undergoing a landscaping project, the time and effort you put into your yard will more than likely give you a healthy return with your sale.

Just be sure that you have one of our residential-friendly dumpsters in place on site before taking on these projects. It’ll save you a ton of stress in the long run.

Maybe it’s time for that remodeling project?

We’ve all put off remodeling projects for one reason or another. When it’s time to sell your home, you’re probably thinking there’s no reason to remodel your kitchen, bathroom, or other space.

But maybe there is?

By remodeling your home before you sell it, you might not ever get to enjoy this new look or space, but you will enjoy the added value this type of project will certainly have for your home.

A new kitchen alone could be the single reason why a buyer decided to make an offer.

The key to a successful home sale? Renting a residential dumpster in New Orleans, Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell

There’s a lot of work to be done before you sell your home. Before you know it, you could be knee deep in yard waste, old furniture, and unwanted clothes and, well, junk.

That’s why most homeowners throughout Mandeville, Slidell, and Greater New Orleans rent a residential dumpster from Bin There Dump That.

Our residential-friendly dumpsters can handle any cleanup or remodeling project you’ll take on, and are designed to fit within the confines of residential properties.

And unlike commercial-grade dumpster bins, the bins at Bin There Dump That are delivered by smaller-sized trucks, and placed on wooden planks, so that your property is not damaged as you get ready to sell your home.

Every contractor and construction worker knows that within a matter of minutes, an empty space can turn into a pile of unruly debris and, let’s face it, junk.

To manage this junk, contractors usually rent some type of dumpster, or bin, which will house the debris until it’s hauled off-site.

It’s a tried and true practice that’s been going on for ages; but a new trend is happening here in the New Orleans area: contractors renting residential-friendly dumpsters for their projects.

Ah, the many benefits of going residential with your dumpster

A dumpster’s just a dumpster, no matter who you get it from, right?

Actually no, although that assumption’s been made by contractors throughout Southeast Louisiana for years.

In reality, there’s so much more behind your dumpster than the ability to house unwanted items and construction debris, which is why we’re seeing more and more construction companies and contractors call us to meet the needs of their projects.

Here are two reasons why you might want to consider renting a residential-friendly dumpster for your next project:

1 – If it’s a residential project site, then it should be a residential dumpster

We’re willing to wager that you wouldn’t approach a residential construction project the same way you would a project entailing an entire business complex, right?

Different materials, man power, equipment and more all depend on the size and scope of your project.

The same goes for your dumpster bins. When working on a residential property, it’s important that you keep the area intact, while also respecting the neighborhood and community. Hauling one of your beaten-down, oversized, and aged commercial bins onto the front lawn of a tiny community is not the way to go.

Residential dumpsters, on the other hand, not only come in sizes friendlier to the confines of communities and homes, but they’re delivered by trucks that are far more residential friendly. Rather than have your bin dropped off by a large, noisy behemoth of a machine, we’re guessing your clients would prefer you offer a more presentable, and discreet option.

2 – Quick pickup and delivery

Contractors have to deal with a flurry of moving parts in order to keep a project under budget and on time. How frustrating would it be to be delayed by something like the delivery or removal of a dumpster?

We’ve seen it happen time and time again; commercial outfits are overbooked and, long ago, forgot what customer service really meant.

Beyond just being a bad business approach, this lack of customer service can cost you and your clients valuable time and money.

The only thing our clients love more than the 5 residential-friendly dumpster sizes we offer is our customer service. From that first phone call, we help you determine your needs and devise a schedule to make sure your project runs smoothly.

For contractors, this is often times more complex than a simple one-time pickup. Depending on the size of your project, you might need several bins or (if you have limited space onsite) several staggered pickups and deliveries.

We’ll be sure to work with you to guarantee your project will not be delayed because of poor management on our part.

Show your clients you’re thinking of them: go residential

Contracting projects involving residential clients requires a specific type of handholding and care. You have to please your clients and show them that you’re always putting them first.

While most contractors do well in being courteous and kind to their clients, why not take that extra step and demonstrate what places you ahead of your competition?

Showing your clients that you use residential-friendly dumpsters for your projects could be the difference between winning a bid and getting overlooked.

Want to learn more about how our bins can help you please your clients? Contact us today to learn more.

Tossing away the hordes of clutter in your home is an easy and effective way to regain some space and sanctity. But not all clutter is junk!

In fact, chances are the clutter you’re trying to break free from is a hidden treasure for someone else out there, which is why garage sales are your saving grace!

Garage sales in the Greater New Orleans area – tips for success

Whether you’re in New Orleans, Covington, Mandeville, or Slidell, your garage sale can either be a huge success or a colossal failure. We’re here to make sure that failure simply isn’t an option. Here are a few tips to make sure your upcoming garage sale helps you remove some (or all) of that clutter from your home.

Just having a garage sale isn’t enough …

Just because you plan on having a garage sale doesn’t mean that the whole world will know about it. You can’t rely on folks driving by your neighborhood, seeing your lawn or driveway filled with hidden treasures, and pulling over to take a look.

You have to advertise.

These days you benefit from both traditional and modern forms of advertising.

Traditional advertising includes placing an ad in your local newspaper (which will cost money) as well as posting signs on street corners and telephone poles. We recommend you also place ads at your local grocery stores and convenience stores, with permission, of course.

When it comes to street signs and telephone poles, less is more. Remember, most folks seeing your signs will be whipping by them at 30+ miles per hour. The less words you have, the more likely the sign will be read.

Modern advertising means turning to digital channels. Specifically, consider creating a Facebook page for your yard sale, or creating a few posts on Twitter or Instagram with clever hashtags (#garagesale, #yardsale). Make sure to also tag your neighborhood or town (#NewOrleans, #Slidell, etc.).

Presentation is everything

Just because you’re getting rid of clutter, doesn’t mean you should make it look like clutter to your prospective buyers. Even the most delicious meal on the planet wouldn’t be as appreciated if it wasn’t presented nicely on the plate.

When creating your garage sale, think about the buyer’s state of mind and try to organize your items accordingly. You might, for example, have an area for automotive items, another area for music lovers, yet another for kitchen appliances, and another for gardening.

Don’t keep them guessing

We’ve seen a lot of garage sales throughout the Greater New Orleans area fail because people don’t price-tag their items.

The most common reasoning behind this choice is folks don’t want to scare away prospective buyers. However, many garage sale shoppers have other things to do during their days; knowing the prices of the stuff they’re looking at helps them make quick decisions.

Besides, if your garage sale is really successful, you’ll never have time to field price requests from the hordes of shoppers, right?

When it comes to checking out, be as flexible as possible

First thing’s first: even in today’s heavily digital world, cash is still the norm at garage sales. It’s like hidden code or something. If you’re planning on coming to a garage sale, be prepared to spend actual cash.

So, to abide by this hidden code, you as the garage sale host have to have plenty of change to accommodate your shoppers. Ones. Fives. Tens. Coins. Have it all.

Pro tip: Don’t have one checkout area. This can create slowdown and bottleneck traffic. It’s best to have your garage sale volunteers (neighbors, family) walking around to check folks out. We recommend using an apron to carry your change in.

Don’t forget, it is a digital world.

So, while most folks know the unwritten cash rule about garage sales, that doesn’t mean everyone is in the know. That’s why, if possible, we strongly encourage you to accept credit/debit.

It’s much easier to do these days. Companies like PayPal and Square offer free card readers that you can plug into your smart device. Each transaction can be credited right to the account of your choosing (like your checking account).

If you’re wondering how these companies can offer these readers for free – it’s because they charge a percentage per transaction. To accommodate this charge, tell your shoppers (and create signs as well) that all price tags list the cash price. Each credit transaction will be an additional dollar (or so). That way you make up the difference of the fee, and you still simplify the checkout process for your shoppers.

Finally, have a contingency plan for items not sold: rent a residential friendly dumpster

Few things can feel as defeating as ending your garage sale by having to lug your unsold items back into your home. Wasn’t the plan to free yourself of all this stuff?

Even the most successful garage sales typically don’t sell out, which is why you should rent a Bin There Dump That residential-friendly dumpster. With a simple phone call (before your garage sale) you can arrange for your dumpster to come after the event.

All you’ll have to do is load up the bin with your unsold items. It’s easy as walking the items into the bin through our unique rear doors. When you’re done loading up the bin, our operators will pick it up – you won’t even have to be there – and get rid of it all for you.

We’re pretty proud of the versatility of our residential-friendly dumpsters, which you can rent in one of five different sizes. These dumpster bins are specifically designed to fit the confines of residential properties and driveways throughout the Greater New Orleans area.

From Slidell to Covington and Mandeville, homeowners throughout Southeastern Louisiana rent our residential-friendly dumpsters for a number of reasons, including:

Spring cleanup

Landscaping projects

Remodeling

Following a flood or fire

But because our dumpster bins are specially designed for homeowners, there are some items that you simply can’t place in them. With dumpster sizes ranging from 9 to 12 feet long and 5 1/2 to 8 feed wide (and 20 yard bins for your bigger projects), you need to be mindful of what you can, and can’t, toss away.

So, what do you do with those unwanted items that simply can’t fit into our residential-friendly dumpster bins? Here are a few tips to get you by:

How to get rid of an old car

Fun fact: folks have tried to toss their cars away in a dumpster bin before. No joke! We can see why: Bin There Dump That makes it easy to toss away all of your unwanted items. Just give us a call when your bin is filled and we’ll handle disposal.

That’s pretty convenient.

But we can’t take your car off your hands. Sorry. But if your car works just fine, why not try to sell it on your own? Craigslist continues to be a great place to unload a car fairly quickly.

If you’re feeling warm and fuzzy, you could donate your car as well. Organizations that accept donated cars will often come pick it up from your property.

If, however, your car has seen better days and isn’t all that operational, check out your local junkyard. These sites love to get their hands on various parts they can resell or use.

Recreational vehicles are similar: You can sell your working RV online or donate it. You might want to consider contacting a local vocational school – they could be interested in your RV or boat as a great project for the students.

Storage units – where in New Orleans to dispose of them

Storage units like trailers, bins, and sheds can’t fit inside the confines of one of our residential-friendly dumpsters.

So, what do you do with them?

We recommend going to your local scrap yard to see if they’ll purchase them. If you’re looking to replace the old unit with a new one, then contact the original manufacturer. They might give you trade-in value or, if you’re lucky, they might take the unit off your hands for a small fee.

Couches and other furniture

Our residential-friendly dumpster bins can handle most types of furniture and appliances, but some things (like a large sectional that doesn’t come apart) likely won’t fit.

One of the best ways to get rid of unwanted furniture is to hold a yard sale. That way you only have to haul your furniture to your yard. You might also want to call a donation service (like a Goodwill or Salvation Army) to see if they’d be interested in picking it up.

What to do with a child’s play set

While a child’s outdoor play set typically lasts quite some time, your child’s interest in that set might not. Many play sets include slides, swings, monkey bars and more, making them pretty sizable. They can’t fit in our bins, but you do have some options:

First and foremost, be neighborly! Check out your neighborhood and see if anyone else would be interested in the play set. You’ll still need to find a way to get the set from one yard to another, but you’ll be making another family very happy.

You could also sell the set at a yard sale, but make sure you tell potential buyers that they’d be responsible for transporting it.

Lastly, you could see if your local school or a non-profit is interested in using it.

The bigger pieces of the landscape puzzle

Let’s be clear here: our residential-friendly dumpster bins can handle most landscaping projects. But what if you need to toss away trees, for example?

Well, if you don’t have a wood chipper or some other chopping tool, your trees won’t fit in our bins. That’s when we’d recommend you call your city to see if they provide removal services.

If you have the means and ways, why not turn that tree into mulch, firewood, or, heck, even wood accents for your home?

More cans than can’ts: the versatility of our residential dumpster rentals in New Orleans

While we’ve focused on a few of the items you can’t toss away in our bins, in the end there are far more items you can toss away. Clothes, appliances, construction materials, boxes and virtually everything else can go inside our bins, so long as they fit. Hazardous materials, tires and paint, on the other hand, are no-nos.

Not sure what you can or can’t put into your dumpster bin? No problem! Our team is on hand to help you decide not only what you can toss away, but we’ll also help you choose the right size bin for your project.

Have you ever looked around your home and thought to yourself, “Boy, I sure do have a lot of stuff“?

You’re not alone. A survey by the National Association of Professional Organizers reveals that 54% of Americans feel overwhelmed by clutter and 78% have no idea what to do with it.

Folks in New Orleans, Covington, Mandeville, and Slidell are no exception.

Experts believe that it’s human nature to collect items as a way to protect ourselves from vulnerabilities. That’s what we do with stuff.

But, the relief we feel when we collect more and more stuff is fleeting, according to Bev Hitchins, the founder of Align, a decluttering service based in Alexandria, Virginia.

“People gather stuff to protect themselves,” Hitchins told the BBC. “It’s an illusion though. It doesn’t make them happy – it’s a cover-up. We get so busy maintaining stuff, keeping it, making sure there’s a place for it. It’s not greed. It’s trying to fill up a hole that’s so big it will never be filled.”

So, what can you do to avoid falling into the same trap as millions of people across the country? It comes down to freeing yourself from certain material things in order to have more time and mental energy for the parts of life that matter most.

How you can get started with a Bin There Dump That residential-friendly dumpster

The minimalist movement is nothing new; however, we’re not even suggesting that you go to that extreme. You don’t have to upheave your life and get rid of all of your worldly possessions in order to pull free from your “stuff.”

We suggest a more realistic approach, which we’ll discuss in a moment.

It all starts with preparation. You should go into your “cleansing period” knowing how and where you’ll get rid of some of your things. That’s why we recommend you rent a dumpster from Bin There Dump That. We have 5 residential-friendly size dumpster bins to choose from. Just set up your delivery and pickup times and we’ll take care of the rest.

Why you should rent a bin before tossing away your stuff

Humans are great at making excuses, especially when we’re embarking on a journey that we’re a little resistant about. If you don’t rent a residential-friendly dumpster bin before you start your cleaning project, then you’ll likely say to yourself: “Well, I have no place to put all this stuff, so I can’t toss it away.”

If, however, you do have your bin put into place on your property, you’ll have no excuse but to start tossing things away. In fact, over time you might start making a game out of it – you’ll see how close you can get to filling up the bin with things in your home that served no real purpose.

The game plan for freeing yourself from “stuff”

Now it’s time to talk about the 1-year-plan.

Here’s how it goes:

Sift through all of your possessions around your home. Make note of the things you’ve not used, looked at, or acknowledged in the past year. (Hint: if you can’t remember the last time you used something, just assume it’s been a year).

These items are likely just taking up space and weighing you down. If it’s been more than a year since they’ve been put to good use, do you really need them?

Doubtful. This includes clothes in your closet that you never seem to wear, trinkets on shelves that only seem to be collecting dust, and so much more.

You might not toss away a lot during this first round, but we’re talking baby steps here. Once you wrap your head around this cleaning project, you can step up your game: toss out anything you haven’t used in the last 6 months.

Minimizing the materials in your life can be stressful – but at least you’ll know where to toss away your stuff

We’ll be the first to admit that tossing away some of your possessions isn’t easy. We’ve all fallen into the trap of holding onto things that serve us little good, and then growing an attachment to those things.

But we want to help simplify the process for you. By providing flexible delivery and pickup times for our residential-friendly dumpsters, we like to think we’re doing a part to help our fellow neighbors across Southeastern Louisiana avoid the effects of the Stuff Paradox.

There’s nothing wrong with holding onto a few sentimental items in your life. But when your possessions start consuming your living space, a change has to be made.

Contact Bin There Dump That today to learn more about how we can help you make that change.
